Zach Ambrose, former Chief of Staff for N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue, discusses the problems of deficit reduction at the state level, while facing the challenges of partisan gridlock and legal constraints on the state budget.

Ambrose was raised in Garner and Raleigh and graduated from Enloe High School in 1986. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned degrees in electrical engineering and Russian. Upon graduation, Zach was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and served almost five years on active duty, with most of that time spent on a guided missile frigate the USS Halyburton.
He was actively involved in North Carolina politics for a number of years and this culminated with his service as Director of the North Carolina Senate Caucus for the 2002 and 2004 election cycles. He has served as Chief of Staff for then Lt. Governor Bev Perdue, as Gov. Perdue’s campaign manager, and as Chief of Staff for Gov. Perdue.
